Shikabane Hime: Kuro 8

Episode 8 of Shikabane Hime: Kuro, “Because Our Mother is Not Stained”, begins with flashbacks to past events we’ve seen until it reaches the end of the previous episode, which continues on to confirm that Nozomi won’t be coming back as a shikabane hime. Elsewhere, Makina wakes up in the Seven Stars base after having been captured. Hazama actually wants Makina to fight against Hokuto, and while Makina doesn’t know what he’s up to, she isn’t going to turn down a chance to destroy the Seven Stars when she’s right in their midst. This time, however, Hokuto sees Makina as something very bright and hot instead of the broken mirror from episode 2. Incidentally, Makina was deliberately selected to be the adversary for the Seven Stars because she was of the Hoshimura bloodline.

Slayers Evolution-R 7

Episode 7 of Slayers Evolution-R, “Town scape: As something created by man”, starts off with Lina and friends just waking up in an uncomfortable storage room. It is the room next to Radok’s, so their sleeping quarters are close by so that they could respond quickly if Zuma appears. At least that is what Abel gave as the justification for their uncomfortable quarters. The episode doesn’t start with Xelloss trying to take the Hellmaster’s Vase by force, so obviously either Xelloss is still unaware that it’s at Radok’s place, something I find hard to believe, or he is quite content to observe how the situation unfolds.

Slayers Evolution-R 6

Episode 6 of Slayers Evolution-R, “Seek! Who is the one being targeted!”, starts off on one stormy night with Ozelle, who arrives at a certain residence to hand over the Hellmaster’s Vase to a young man, which is to be given over to his father. Some time later on a nice day, Lina and friends have arrived at Bezendi, an active commercial city, and the first order of business for Lina and Gourry is the search for delicious food. It’s rationalized by claiming that with no further leads there is not much they could do, but Zelgadis goes off on his own to ask around the city. But just when Lina is about to start off for a promising restaurant, a boy stops them to bring them to someone called Radok.

Jigoku Shoujo Mitsuganae 19

Episode 19 of Jigoku Shoujo Mitsuganae, “Snow, Moon, and Flower”, starts off with Nakiri Kaori, a well-known flower arrangement specialist, looking at her own work and feeling that something important is lacking. Ominously, we see a sort of flashback where flowers are sprouting from skeletons.

After the opening credits, Yuzuki approaches a couple of her teachers and the janitor, asking what they’re doing. They’re actually Hone Onna, Ichimokuren, and Wanyuudo, and they are trimming flowers from the flower bed, and they give Yuzuki the trimmed flowers to her delight. On the way home, Yuzuki encounters Kaori, who happens to be on the way to her father’s funeral. Seeing the flowers that Yuzuki carries, she arranges them aesthetically and impressing Yuzuki. In return, she asks Yuzuki to buy some roasted sweet potatoes from a nearby vendor since it would be awkward for her to buy them herself in formal funeral attire. This is how Yuzuki and Kaori get to know each other.

Shikabane Hime: Kuro 7

Episode 7 of Shikabane Hime: Kuro, “A Mundane Wish”, continues from where the previous episode ended, where Kasuga Nozomi is asking Ouri to kill her. When Ouri pushes her away, Nozomi explains that her happiness is death, strongly influenced by Touya, when the interior of Ouri’s apartment starts being damaged by something spherical but unseen. Ouri is doubting what he is seeing when Nozomi starts kissing his face off, which is when the black cat appears. The cat teases Ouri about goofing off and pricks Ouri’s left eye, telling him that he wasn’t hallucinating. Once Ouri’s left eye is soaked blood-red, he is able to see the huge balloon, which also seems to contain a monster of some sort, tied down to Nozomi’s neck.

Slayers Evolution-R 5

Episode 5 of Slayers Evolution-R, “Raider! Voice from the Darkness”, starts off with another fiasco from a wild goose chase led by Nama. Even the previously sympathetic Amelia is annoyed with her, as the group has yet again followed a trail that had nothing to do with the Hellmaster’s Vase. Zelgadis suggests that they should look at the problem from another perspective: instead of relying on Nama’s unreliable memory for clues to the whereabouts of the Hellmaster’s Vase, they should try to recover her memories first. This is a great excuse for Lina to blast Nama this way and that under the justification that it’s “shock therapy”.

Jigoku Shoujo Mitsuganae 18

Episode 18 of Jigoku Shoujo Mitsuganae, “Special Radio”, starts off with Yuzuki listening to the radio. She’s alarmed when she hears a bell, and even worse, someone suggested that the radio show include a Jigoku Tsushin corner. So it’s a relief when it turns out to be a suggestion for a corner where people can air their grievances, not something related to Enma Ai. Elsewhere, a girl is quite happy that her message has been read on the same radio show hosted by a Shijima Joutaro, making it the fifth time that she has received mention and gifted a bell from the radio show.

Shikabane Hime: Kuro 6

Episode 6 of Shikabane Hime: Kuro, “The Monster that is Happiness”, continues from the previous episode, where Ena had animated a group of fake Keiseis in his assault against Makina. Ouri faces off against Ena and actually manages to defeat the shikabane, who shows no special abilities during the fight. Ouri managed to invoke a form of sadanjutsuhou which helped him beat Ena, to the surprise of the others since Ouri hardly has much training as a Kougonshuu monk. Sadahiro mentions that a sadanjutsuhou is not really an innate ability developed by a monk, but rather an endowed blessing, so perhaps Ouri is being watched over by Keisei from the beyond, or perhaps it has to do with Ouri’s as yet mysterious origins.
