Any true fan of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya would recognize this game: The Day of Sagittarius III. If you have an iPhone, you can now play the game as provided by Kadokawa Shoten, the publisher for the Haruhi Suzumiya novels.
The Day of Sagittarius III is quite a rudimentary game, which is pretty much what you might expect from a high school computer club. This makes it more authentic, so no gamer with any financial sense would want to buy it at two bucks. A fanboy such as myself could have some problems resisting getting the game, however, no matter how boring the game might actually be.
There are certain limitations that erode the game’s authenticity:
- It’s on the iPhone. This means no keyboard control or display on a regular monitor.
- It’s not multiplayer. Just as importantly, there is no separate control of fleets by multiple people on the same side. That means no pretending to be the SOS Dan.
- I can’t emulate Nagato: as far as I know, there is no opportunity to use uber hacking skills to cheat.
